Rendall & Rittner hold the key to success for apprentices

National Apprenticeship Week (3rd – 7th February 2020) shines a light on the opportunities open to those who choose not to enter into higher education and instead undertake an apprenticeship. The UKs leading independent property management agent, Rendall & Rittner, is committed to supporting young people and helping them develop their careers within the sector.

Rendall & Rittner’s apprenticeship scheme provides young people with the opportunity to build their skills whilst learning on the job. Liam Barratt (19), is currently completing an apprenticeship with Rendall & Rittner, and once finished will hold a Level 3 diploma and IRPM membership. Speaking about how he became an apprentice Liam comments: “I had heard about apprenticeships from my friend and hadn’t really considered it before. I knew that higher education wasn’t for me, but also wanted to have some qualifications against my name. I spoke to Catch22 who helped me to find an apprenticeship which would help me meet my lifetime goals, but also ensure that the employer was a good one.”

“I joined the scheme at Rendall & Rittner in September 2018 and feel really lucky to have been given the opportunity to join such a great company. Before I started, I didn’t really know much about property management, but now I can see that this industry is growing quickly and provides the perfect chance for me to build a successful career” continues Liam.

A standard day for an apprentice is just like that of any other employee, Liam explains. “A typical day for me is the same as an Assistant Property Manager. I am trusted to go to site and carry out inspections, making sure that all of the health and safety criteria is met and that quality checks meet the standard kept by Rendall & Rittner. I speak to site staff and ensure that everything is ok and that there are no issues. I love that I am trusted by the company to make sure that the sites are running smoothly.”

“Since joining in 2018 I have learnt so much, I thought I was confident before, but am even more confident now. I have picked up so many skills by working on the job, ones that I don’t think I would have learnt at university. The team here have been excellent and are always willing to help if I am struggling. As a company Rendall & Rittner have been great at encouraging me to succeed and I couldn’t think of a better employer to begin my career with.”

“I have really enjoyed working on the job and experiencing the ‘real world’ and would encourage everyone to consider an apprenticeship. Once I am qualified, I would like to continue working for Rendall & Rittner as an Assistant Property Manager and eventually work my way up to becoming a Property Manager. It would be great to experience some of the other sites too” concludes Liam.

Richard Daver, Managing Director at Rendall & Rittner comments: “We have been working with Catch22 for the past three years and have seen some fantastic apprentices walk through our doors. For us as a business the apprenticeship scheme has been invaluable. We currently have 15 apprentices in the company and it has been fantastic to see their passion for the industry and skills grow.”
