“Earlier this summer, the Association for Rental Living (ARL) contributed to the House of Lords Inquiry into the Building Safety Regulator (BSR), submitting comprehensive evidence based on the input of our institutionally backed, professionally manged purpose-built rental living sector members, and the issues they have faced.
“We welcome today’s publication of the House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee’s resulting report ‘The Building Safety Regulator: Building a better regulator’ and are pleased to see that the positions which the ARL put forward have been recognised, and recommendations made accordingly.
“The ARL’s contribution to this Inquiry is part of the organisation’s broader work around building safety and we are particularly encouraged to see the report’s calls for greater guidance to be given to MDTs on how compliance with the Building Regulations should be evidenced and assessed to ensure greater consistency, improvements to efficiency and consistency, and provision for long-term funding for the training of new building and fire inspectors, as these align with the ARL’s standing call for a cultural shift from building safety compliance to competence – for both the regulator and industry.
“The ARL, on behalf of our members, remains available to the Industry and Regulators Committee, the BSR and the Government regards building safety to speed up BSR approvals and thus the delivery of new homes so clearly required across the UK.”
