The National Landlords Association (NLA) is providing a special information facility for all landlords to help them understand the new Housing Act now that the regulations arising from that legislation are coming into force. The Act brings in very wide changes to the way the private-rented sector operates in England and Wales. Scotland has its own legislative framework. The Department for Communities & Local Government (DCLG), formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM), is providing funding for this new facility.
“This is a very important step in the process of disseminating information on the new regulatory regime that will operate under the Housing Act 2004”, said NLA Chairman, David Salusbury. “We are very glad that the DCLG has recognised that landlords associations have an important role to play to in ensuring the smooth implementation of the Act’s provisions. To protect the interests of both landlords and tenants we need to take such practical measures and we are pleased to provide this service”.
Landlords wishing to use the service should email housingact2004@landlords.org.uk where an auto reply will provide answers to Frequently Asked Questions and a link to information covering HMO Licensing, Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS), Management Orders (including Interim & Final Management Orders and Empty Dwelling Management Orders, known as EDMOs). Those without access to the internet or email can telephone 0845 052 9473 and the NLA will send out a pack containing all of these to the caller.
David Salusbury continues: “This new initiative will in no way affect the service our advice-line provides for our members who will of course continue to receive the fully comprehensive service of advice”.
