A new collection of apartments in Cambridge is proving to be a deviation from traditional student digs thanks to a range of modern technologies and intelligent design.
The Newton, on Humberstone Road, consists of 23 contemporary studio and one-bedroom apartments. Each provides a robust yet comfortable living space, integrating leisure, sleeping and study zones, and including an en suite shower room and contemporary kitchen. Features such as underfloor heating and a video entry system can all be monitored and controlled via touch screens in each apartment.
Developed by Chard Robinson, The Newton represents a blend of Cambridge’s past, present and future. Externally, the Victorian building has been painstakingly recreated, with the façade rebuilt to integrate original sandstone pillars and brickwork.
Chard Robinson Director, Stephen Chard says: “Long gone is the traditional bedsit with its cramped communal facilities; students, all living technology-led lifestyles, their parents and property owners alike now expect more.
“We have also ensured that the development is cost-effective to run and limited in its environmental impact, with every fixture, fitting, finish and function selected to be durable, low-maintenance and kinder to the planet.”
