Dedicated Finance Director celebrates over 30 years with leading housebuilder

Having originally joined as an accountant at David Wilson Homes’ head office in Leicestershire, Andy was responsible for the company’s Eastern Counties division, based in Essex, before progressing quickly through the ranks. 

By 2002, he was promoted to Finance Director and relocated to West Berkshire to work at the company’s Hungerford office – a base he has worked from ever since. 

Reflecting on his journey, Andy said: “Back in the 1980s and 90s, David Wilson Homes was one of the most prestigious companies to work for in Leicestershire – right up there with Walkers Crisps and GEC. 

“I’d always admired the business, so when I joined in 1994, I knew I was in the right place.” 

After qualifying with ACCA in 1992, Andy held accounting roles in logistics and publishing before joining the housebuilding industry. His early years at David Wilson Homes led to him being responsible for the integration of the Trencherwood Homes Business in Newbury, which was acquired in 1996 by Wilson Bowden (David Wilson Homes). 

Andy added: “By the time Barratt acquired Wilson Bowden in 2007, I was fully embedded in the Southern division. 

“I’d spent years working alongside a Managing Director I respected greatly, and the company ethos aligned with my own. That strong working relationship really defined my path – if I didn’t have it, I might have pursued a different role or chased other opportunities.” 

Over the years, Andy has witnessed significant change in the business and the housing market, including navigating economic turbulence caused by the 2008 financial crash, the COVID-19 pandemic, and more recent political upheaval. 

Throughout it all, he has remained a steady presence in the Hungerford-based division, contributing to the financial strategy and growth of developments across Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and parts of Wiltshire and Hampshire. 

Known for his straight-talking and analytical approach, Andy is highly respected among colleagues for his ability to cut through complexity and deliver pragmatic solutions. 

He said: “I feel proud to have contributed to the success of so many developments over the years. It’s a privilege to work alongside great teams and to help shape the financial direction of a business that builds communities people love to call home.”

With more than three decades of experience to his name, Andy continues to lead the finance function for David Wilson Homes Southern and has no immediate plans to slow down. 

He added: “For now, I’m focused on continuing to support the division in any way I can. I’ve always believed in keeping things simple, working hard, and being part of a team that’s committed to delivering quality homes.”
