At a glittering ceremony at Quaglino's in swanky Mayfair, the 5th set of ERMAs were staged and hosted earlier this month for the 4th time by Dominic Holland, our almost resident comedian and raconteur. Dominic is not only familiar to guests at the Enfranchisement & Right to Manage Awards but also to those lucky enough to attend the Property Management Awards.
Congratulations go to all the winners, highly commended and all of those nominated and in attendance. The evening was a great success and testament to the collegiate atmosphere that we are lucky to enjoy in our sector. And our thanks to Dominic also. Those present on the night will have heard Dominic make reference to his illustrious son and his very unusual set of family circumstances that occurs when a parent is eclipsed by his son.
Some guests on the evening asked whether or not this not all an elaborate joke. He is a comedian after all. Nicolas Shulman, Publisher of News on the Block explained: “Knowing Dominic as I do, I can attest to his story. His eldest son Tom does indeed cast a shadow over his funny dad.”
Recently, Tom appeared opposite Ewan McGregor in The Impossible. He has a film out this summer called How I Live Now and young Tom is about to start filming on In the Heart of the Sea, to be directed by Ron Howard, no less. And all of this has transpired by fluke without a drama lesson in site as Dominic explains in a rather delightful ebook.
Appropriately titled, How Tom Holland Eclipsed his Dad, the book charts the unlikely story of a boys journey from a dance class at a local YMCA to private jets to LAX and meetings with Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. All set against Dominic's best efforts to break in to movies himself. As yet, an ambition which is still pending.
“I have read the book and I agree with the wealth of 5 star reviews on Amazon. It is a very funny story, written with great affection for a dad and his boys. And given how we have all come to know Dominic over the years, it will make entertaining and insightful reading for you all and I know that Dominic would greatly appreciate your support,” said Nicolas Shulman.
