at the centre of recent controversy surrounding vociferous complaints from
retirement flat owners finally broke his silence on the issue by giving a frank and exclusive interview published in the next issue of News on the Block magazine.
Retirement leaseholders, led by pressure-group CARLEX, have complained about some operational practices in residential developments which they claim are unfair. Their high-profile campaign has been taken to the Houses of Parliament and Ed Davey MP, also writing in the next issue of News on the Block, has said, "we have to tackle the causes of any abuse, before the wider sector is damaged”.
When asked about the recent accusations levelled against him and his group of companies, Tchenguiz revealed, "Obviously I don’t feel good about it and I don’t feel it’s correct". Tchenguiz was interviewed together with Nigel Bannister, Chief Executive of the Peverel Group, the managing agent responsible for many of the properties concerned. During a tough round of questioning from News on the Block Bannister admitted that "some of the criticism was probably justified" but robustly defended the complaints and allegations made against the company. "We are building an enduring business model and if we don’t have our customers on board then we are simply not going to be able to do that", said Bannister.
The full interview will be published in Issue 47 of News on the Block which is due out next week, and online in the next few days. Click here to register for FREE and be the first to know when the full interview is available, or contact us on 0845 618 7746.
