As cyber security continues to be a threat facing individuals and businesses, property management company FirstPort has joined Bedfordshire Police to reveal the top steps to prevent fraud and cyber-attacks.
FirstPort, which is headquartered at Marlborough House in Luton, Bedfordshire, launched a cyber security webinar in partnership with Bedforshire Police last month to educate retirement residents and staff on best practice for staying safe online.
Its top online safety tips are:
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), people are more likely to be a victim of fraud or cybercrime than any other crime.
Liam O’Reilly, FirstPort’s Head of Information Security, said: “Our priority as a business is to not only make our systems the safest they can be, but also to educate staff and customers about the best way to keep their personal data safe.
“Holding events such as this webinar is a great opportunity to help our residents and show that we take cyber security seriously.
“We think it’s really important to keep sharing this advice. While you may now know the best methods for keeping your personal information secure, there might be somebody out there who could really benefit from this. You never know, it could make a real difference.”
Bedfordshire Police’s Cyber Protect Team supports the region’s Cyber Resilience Centre, which is a UK initiative to help businesses build resilience to cyberattacks.
Michael Williams, Cyber Protect and Prevent Officer at Bedfordshire Police, said: “The remit of Bedfordshire Police’s Cyber Protect team is to understand the threat picture and respond appropriately. The role encompasses delivering appropriate ‘Protect’ products, services, and materials to empower the public, businesses, and organisations so they can better protect themselves.
“This, in turn, increases the protect capabilities across policing. We are always looking for partnerships to enhance and reach out to those most vulnerable in the community and working with First Port provided that opportunity which was well received.”
