David Wilson Homes Southern has supported Basingstoke Foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust, with a donation of groceries to assist their work during a challenging time.
Based at the Tempus Business Centre in Basingstoke, the foodbank has two distribution centres within the town and is still striving to support those in need during the Covid-19 crisis.
Items donated by David Wilson Homes, based nearby at its Gillies Meadow and Spiers Meadow developments, included instant mash, tinned meat, spreads, toilet paper, tinned spaghetti, toiletries and dried milk – all of which were desperately needed by the foodbank.
After being weighed by the volunteers at the foodbank, the total of items donated came to 28.36kg which is equivalent to 68 meals for those in need.
Whilst observing the latest social distancing guidelines, Basingstoke Foodbank has increased its operational hours and is making safe deliveries of nutritional food parcels to vulnerable people in Basingstoke from Monday to Friday.
Samantha Stapley, Chief Operating Officer at the Trussell Trust, said: “As the coronavirus outbreak develops, more people are likely to need a foodbank’s help. Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure that foodbanks are able to remain open and have the necessary stocks to respond to this crisis. The support of David Wilson Homes means foodbanks will be able to remain agile to respond to the fast-changing situation and continue to provide the lifeline of emergency food and additional support for people in crisis.”
Now is as crucial a time as any to help those living in poverty and David Wilson Homes’ contribution towards Basingstoke Foodbank will help its volunteers continue to make a difference for many people.
Paul Crispin, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “We’re delighted to support Basingstoke Foodbank at a time where togetherness and community spirit is most significant.
“The representatives of the Trussell Trust do an outstanding job in providing emergency supplies to those in need, and we hope our donation will support their admirable work during these testing times.”
Basingstoke Foodbank is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
