The award - winning Thames Gateway Forum returns to the ExCel Centre on the 22nd and 23rd November. The Forum, now in its third year, is the only event of its kind to bring together all organisations involved in the regeneration of the Thames Gateway, Europe’s largest regeneration initiative.
A recent survey commissioned by Davies Arnold Cooper showed that one and two bedroom homes now account for more than 80% of housing in the Thames Gateway. This has added to the growing concern regarding small space standards and the view that there is a shortage of family housing in the South East. The Thames Gateway Forum undertook their own survey earlier this year and reported in their new quarterly publication gateway.
The research involved 220 professionals involved in the regeneration and development of the Thames Gateway and included developers and planners. The findings revealed that without intervention at the highest level there is a risk that small space standards in modern housing will creep in and undermine long-term regeneration efforts across the region.
Paul Wheeler, editor of gateway said: “The small size of new houses is an issue that must be addressed to ensure that good quality sustainable housing is achieved within the Thames Gateway.
How we go about achieving affordable homes that are sustainable in every sense of the word will be one of the main themes at this year’s Thames Gateway Forum.”
