Commenting on the Housing Minster’s statement on Leasehold and Commonhold Reform, The Property Institute’s Chief Executive, Andrew Bulmer said:

“The Housing Minister’s announcement today gives much needed detail on how and when Government will move forward with leasehold reform, which we have long awaited. This is welcome progress in bringing an improved quality of living and transparency for leaseholders.

“The recognition of the need to drive up standards through mandatory professional qualifications for managing agents as a basic standard is particularly significant. Further consideration of Lord Best’s recommendations on regulation is also encouraging. The Property Institute has long campaigned for reform around both these issues to protect residents.

“Ultimately, the minority of rogue operators must be stopped and unethical practice stamped out through independent regulatory oversight and enforceable competency and behavioural standards. We look forward to continuing to work with Government and industry to deliver the necessary reform.”
