Leading build-to-rent (BTR) specialist Sigma Capital has promoted five team members to senior leadership roles, including three new Managing Directors, completing a new Operational Board drawn almost entirely from within the business. The changes come as the Group surpasses 13,000 homes delivered and contracted, with 4,510 of these on its own balance sheet.
Jack Barnet has been promoted to Managing Director of Operations, focusing on the operational direction of the business. Adam Freeland is now Managing Director of Partnerships, spearheading Sigma’s industry-leading housebuilder partnerships as the market continues to develop. Steven Brewster has been appointed Managing Director of Transactions and, working alongside Jack and Adam, will lead the transaction teams on the opportunities the Group is currently developing.
Following the retirement of long-serving CFO Mike McGill, Victoria Helstrip has been promoted to Group Chief Financial Officer. Victoria worked alongside Mike throughout his time at Sigma, and the two were colleagues before both joined the business six years ago. She brings in-depth knowledge of Sigma and continuity to the finance team. Kenny Brewster, based in the firm’s Edinburgh office, has been promoted to Property Investment and Valuations Director, taking over from long-serving Investment and Valuations Director Gwynn Thomson, who continues to support the Group in a consultancy role. Kenny has worked alongside Gwynn for the last three years in preparation for the step up, again providing continuity for the Group and its property advisers. All of those promoted have been instrumental in building Sigma’s model and in the acquisition and delivery of Sigma’s owned assets.
Ged McPartlin, whose appointment as Managing Director of Simple Life Management, Sigma’s in-house lettings and management platform, was announced earlier this year, also joins the Operational Board of Sigma to work alongside the investment and delivery teams.
With their collective experience in the BTR sector, the senior team will spearhead Sigma’s growth ambitions and long-term strategy, strengthening every part of Sigma’s end-to-end platform and supporting its next phase of growth.
The Operational Board of Sigma now comprises Graham Barnet, CEO and Founder; Mike Scott, Group Corporate Finance Director and Group Legal Counsel; Jason Berry, Group Construction and Technical Director and Regional Managing Director; Victoria Helstrip, Group Chief Financial Officer; Jack Barnet, Managing Director – Operations; Adam Freeland, Managing Director – Partnerships; Steven Brewster, Managing Director – Transactions; and Ged McPartlin, Managing Director of Simple Life Management.
Graham Barnet, CEO at Sigma Capital, said:
“I’m proud to strengthen our senior leadership team, promoting Victoria, Kenny, Jack, Adam and Steven. Each of them has played a significant role in our journey to becoming one of the UK’s leading single-family build-to-rent housing platforms. Our investment in them reflects our ambitious growth plans and the key areas of the business we are looking to scale. I’d also like to thank Mike McGill and Gwynn Thomson for their enormous contribution to Sigma over many years, and to wish them both a long and happy retirement.
We’ve come a long way from setting up the UK’s first build-to-rent single-family fund over 13 years ago, and thanks to the expertise of our team, we have created an unrivalled property delivery and management platform, offering a full end-to-end in-house managed facility.
With a leadership group that has grown with the business over many years, we’re ready to unlock further opportunities, and I look forward to working closely with each of them to deliver on our long-term ambitions.”
