The FirstPort Group has appointed Mairead McErlean as Head of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs, providing strategic guidance on current and emerging legislation, while representing FirstPort in broader industry discussions on regulatory change and the future direction of the residential property sector.
With over 20 years’ experience as a lawyer, Mairead has held roles in the legal teams across FirstPort and the Emeria group since 2021, most recently as Head of Dispute Resolution.
Mairead is experienced in helping businesses to understand and comply with new legislation, previously advising FirstPort during the rollout of the Building Safety Act.
In her new role, Mairead will lead compliance across all areas of FirstPort’s business operations, whilst engaging with Government departments, industry bodies, and key stakeholders, providing valuable insight to help ensure FirstPort remains at the forefront of positive change in the sector, amid upcoming regulatory reforms.
Commenting on her new role, Mairead said: “I’m excited to take on a role which will help shape the future of residential property management. With the government’s ambitious homebuilding targets and the anticipated reforms to leasehold legislation and tenure models, the communal living landscape is evolving rapidly.
“Over the course of my career, I’ve seen how the current legislation operates in practice and where it can fall short. My involvement in the legislative stages of the Building Safety Act 2022 gave me valuable insight into the importance of industry engagement in shaping effective regulation. I look forward to applying that experience to help FirstPort contribute to the evolving framework, navigate changes and thrive.”
Martin King, Managing Director, The FirstPort Group, added: “This role strengthens FirstPort's commitment to being at the forefront of industry reform and the increasing professionalism of the sector, ensuring that we deliver the positive changes and high standards our customers and clients deserve.”
