The future of rental search must go beyond the listing, says Love to Rent

As artificial intelligence changes how people discover homes, the leading UK platform dedicated to professionally managed renting, Love to Rent, says better technology must be matched by richer, more transparent information about the experience renters can expect.

Love to Rent is calling for the next generation of rental search to move beyond bedrooms, price and postcode and give consumers a clearer understanding of what it will actually be like to live in a home.

The call comes as AI-led and conversational search begins to reshape the property market. Instead of selecting from a fixed set of filters, consumers can increasingly describe their priorities in everyday language - from commuting and schools to pets, green space, community and affordability.

Love to Rent believes this shift could make finding a home more intuitive and personal. However, it warns that a more sophisticated search interface will not, by itself, give renters the confidence to make better decisions. The quality, consistency and independence of the information behind the search will be critical.

Anne-Marie Brown, Founder and Managing Director of Love to Rent, said: “People do not simply choose the number of bedrooms and a postcode. They are choosing how they want to live, who they will be renting from and what service and support they can expect once they have moved in.

“AI has the potential to make finding a home much more intuitive, but it will only be as useful as the information behind it. Renters need clear and reliable detail about management, amenities, pets, community, flexibility and the overall resident experience, not simply a new way to search the same basic listings.

“Love to Rent was created around this understanding. Our role is to help consumers discover professionally managed rental homes and make better-informed decisions about whether a development and its wider experience are right for them.”

The Love to Rent platform works with the leading Build to Rent operators and helps consumers explore professionally managed Build to Rent, Single-Family Rental, Co-Living and Later Living homes. Its content focuses not only on the property itself, but also on the people, services and communities behind it.

Love to Rent’s collaboration with hearSAY adds an independent layer of scrutiny through mystery shopping of the prospective resident journey. Developments achieving a score of at least 77 per cent receive the hearSAY Gold Standard, giving consumers a visible indication of service quality and helping operators identify where the experience can be improved.

Love to Rent also identifies Love to Rent Awards winners on the website, helping consumers recognise developments and operators that have been acknowledged for excellence by an independent panel of senior industry experts.

The issue will be explored during Love to Rent Week, taking place from 28 September to 4 October 2026. The national campaign will bring together resident stories, operator insight, regional features and a new Careers in Build to Rent strand to show the breadth of people and experiences behind professionally managed rental homes.

Anne-Marie Brown added: “Technology will continue to change how people find a home, and that is exciting. But the sector must make sure innovation improves understanding rather than simply accelerating the route to an enquiry. The opportunity is to give renters a much fuller and more honest picture of the home and service they are choosing.”
