The Hill Group supports walk to school week with local road safety education event

Award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group has joined forces with Little Green Junior School in Croxley Green to raise important awareness of road safety. In honour of Walk to School Week, taking place from 20-24th May, the Hill team has worked with the school to encourage parents and children to ditch their cars and walk to school.

Walk to School Week is organised by Living Streets, a charity with a mission to achieve a better walking environment and inspire people to walk more. The 2024 campaign has seen more than 1,000 schools, representing nearly 300,000 pupils, take up the challenge to walk to school for a whole week. Learning to do so safely is essential; while the number of people killed and seriously injured in traffic accidents in the UK is falling, the latest figures still show 1,633 road collision fatalities in the year to June 2023.

In Croxley Green, the charming community in which Hill’s Millside Grange development is located has worked with Little Green Junior School to help promote road safety. The Hill team – including mascot Billy the Bear – joined the children for a special assembly on Tuesday 21st May, where teachers discussed the Walk to School Week campaign. Following the assembly, children from the school’s Eco and Sustainability Council then donned high-vis jackets before walking with the Hill team and teacher Mrs Reile from the school to Millside Grange to put their road safety lesson into action.

While at Millside Grange, the children took the opportunity to explore one of the impressive, beautifully furnished show homes. The five-bed show home represents the exceptional quality of the Millside Grange properties, which range from spacious two-bedroom houses up to substantial, five-bedroom family homes. The traditional brick and masonry of the semi-detached and detached homes dovetail beautifully with the rich greenery and timeless aesthetics of the surrounding area and its established community. Stunning and contemporary, while also paying homage to classic window and porch designs, the homes impress both inside and out.

Delighting in having the run of the family show home, Little Green School’s youngsters enjoyed exploring the property’s modern, flexibly designed interior before discovering the generously sized back garden, along with the plush, cosy bedrooms that exude a sense of serenity.

Before the youngsters left Millside Grange to walk back to school, Hill gifted them with high-vis key rings and stickers, serving as both a memento of their visit and a reminder to always prioritise road safety while walking to and from the school, as well as when out socially.

Duncan Roberts, Headteacher at Little Green Junior School, comments: “The children were thrilled to welcome Hill, into school, to promote the topic of road safety as part of Walk to School Week. This valuable initiative reminds us of the changes that we can all make to improve the environment and get more exercise, as well as the crucial importance of road safety education.”

Rebecca Littler, Group Sales and Marketing Director at The Hill Group, comments: “It was lovely to see how delighted the children were to meet with Hill’s mascot Billy the Bear and how enthusiastically they set about discovering all the different rooms and garden of our Millside Grange show home. Walk to School Week is such an important initiative. We were proud to have the opportunity to lend our support and work with the children to raise awareness of road safety.”
