Andy Hill, the founder and Group Chief Executive of award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group, formally received his OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) at an investiture ceremony held at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, July 11th, in the same week as the company’s 24th anniversary.
Earlier in 2023, Andy was named in His Majesty King Charles III’s first New Year's Honours List for services to Affordable Housing, an area of the housebuilding industry where The Hill Group has been a pioneering presence since Andy founded the company. In that time, under his leadership, Hill has grown to become the UK’s second-largest private developer, with affordable homes representing around half of the Group’s portfolio. Andy received his insignia at an event held in the Grand Reception Room at Windsor from His Majesty King Charles III.
Andy Hill comments: "It is a great honour to be named in The King’s Honours List and to formally receive this OBE. Throughout my career in housebuilding, providing exceptional homes and sustainable communities for people of all walks of life has been my passion, and so I am very grateful to be recognised for my work in affordable housing, which is such a vital area of the housing sector. Although this is a personal accolade, I owe a debt of gratitude to my exceptional team at The Hill Group, our partners and supply chain, and of course my family for their incredible support over many years."
Since Andy founded the company in 1999, The Hill Group has built—or is in the process of building—over 32,000 new homes in the South of England, with around half of those delivered on an affordable basis. Currently, 1,665 affordable homes are in the process of being built.
In the affordable housing space, Hill has developed an impressive reputation as a partner of choice for many Housing Associations and Local Authorities in delivering estate regeneration and community-led transformation projects.
In addition, in 2019, Andy marked Hill’s 20th anniversary by launching ‘Foundation 200’, a £15 million charitable programme to support people experiencing homelessness. Under the programme, Hill set out to donate 200 purpose-built ‘SoloHaus’ modular homes to local authorities and homeless charities, providing safe, secure accommodation to people who would otherwise be without a home.
The past year has seen The Hill Group go from strength to strength, posting record annual profits in April of £65.6 million from revenues of £716 million. Andy Hill has set out a five-year vision to double the size of the business by 2025 while growing headline turnover to £1.25 billion, and that vision is firmly on track with affordable housing delivery playing a key role.
Andy Hill comments: "There remains a great deal for us to achieve, and I am ambitious about the prospects of The Hill Group over the years to come as we continue our mission to be the UK’s most trusted housebuilder."
