For the first time ever, the most influential people in the residential leasehold property sector are identified. The list contains a mix of leasehold campaigners, Parliamentarians, trade and professional bodies, managing agents, building owners, investors, developers, valuers, and lawyers amongst others.
Entries have been gathered subjectively according to our knowledge and experience of the industry and are arranged in alphabetical order by name.
Peter is a partner in the practice of Pennycuick Collins, specialising in residential block management. As chairman of ARMA from 2010 to 2012 Peter oversaw the appointment of ARMA’s new CEO and the establishment of the ARMA-Q project which was launched in May 2013. Peter is an ARMA council member.
James combines many professional roles: he is a solicitor (over 20 years with Trowers & Hamlins), a Lawyer Chair at the Residential Property Tribunal, a distinguished academic (currently a visiting Professor at Essex University) , a prolific author of books and articles, a well-known conference speaker and an accredited mediator.
Jack is the Labour MP for Birmingham Erdington and as Shadow Housing Minister has been supportive of greater protections for renters and landlords and promised that housing will take political centre stage at the next election. Jack says housing, “...is intrinsically linked to economic growth and rebuilding our future”.
Mark Elliott joined McCarthy and Stone, the largest builder of private retirement flats in the UK, in 2012. He was previously CEO at Arena Leisure plc. Mark also spent fifteen years at Wembley plc, latterly as CEO, where he was instrumental in the sale of Wembley Stadium to the Football Association.
Anthony, an accredited mediator and barrister, has been involved in residential leasehold for almost 20 years, and leads a Government funded organisation which provides help and advice to over 40,000 leaseholders in England and Wales each year, as well as training to hundreds of practitioners.
Robert’s handles a multitude of applications to extend leases or buy freeholds, on behalf of lessees and freeholders; advises on leasehold professional negligence cases, and on rent reviews. He has appeared as an expert witness at many leasehold valuation tribunals and has been involved in some 8 appeals to the Lands Tribunal, including Arbib and Sportelli.
Nick Faulkner has been in leasehold management for over 20 years. Having built and sold one business, Labyrinth Properties, he now provides consultancy advice to Chartered Surveyors wishing to expand into this market. His personal contacts through the industry has led him to work for virtually every PLC house builder and developer.
Nigel is well known in the insurance world having worked alongside many influential leaders, allowing him to source exceptional new products and premiums. His experience, combined with Deacons understanding of Blocks of Flats Insurance and the backing of new owners A J Gallagher’s, suggests he is a name on people’s lips in the insurance market.
The Federation’s assiduous Director of Policy, whose remit covers everything property, but looks never happier than when promoting residential investment.
