Traditional estate agencies crying out for staff, with almost 1,300 agents needed across England

The research shows that there are currently an estimated 1,274 estate agency vacancies advertised across England, highlighting the considerable recruitment requirement that remains across the traditional agency sector.

London accounts for almost a third of estate agency vacancies

The research shows that whilst there are almost 1,300 job openings across England at present, it’s London that is most in need of more estate agents, with an estimated 413 estate agency positions currently being advertised. 

That means the capital alone accounts for 32.4% of all estate agency vacancies currently advertised across England, despite the fact that the London market has arguably been the most impacted by the slower market conditions seen so far this year. 

Birmingham ranks second, accounting for 7.6% of all estate agency vacancies currently advertised across England, followed by Manchester at 3.5% and Bristol at 3.2%.

Nottingham accounts for a further 2.4%, with Leeds at 2.0%, Bradford at 1.8% and Liverpool at 1.6%. 

The figures suggest that, despite a more measured property market, there remains a substantial requirement for staff across traditional estate agency businesses – particularly within the capital.

“It's somewhat surprising to see traditional estate agencies crying out for staff to this extent, particularly when the market itself has been operating at a more measured pace. 

Of course, we might have an idea where some of the industry's best agents have gone.

More and more high-performing agents have seen the light and moved away from traditional employment in favour of building their own businesses under the self-employed model. So perhaps the issue isn't a shortage of talented estate agents, but that the traditional model is finding it increasingly difficult to attract and retain them. 

Perhaps somewhat coincidentally, eXp UK surpassed the 1,000-agent milestone this summer, which isn't a million miles away from the number of vacancies traditional agencies are currently trying to fill across England. We'll let others draw their own conclusions from that one.”
