TrueNorth Capital Group has acquired long-established industrial and commercial roofing specialist Total Roof Control (Midlands) Ltd as part of an ambitious acquisition strategy.
The acquisition strengthens TrueNorth’s External Envelope & Facades division and represents another significant step in the group’s plans to bring together high-quality specialist construction businesses under long-term ownership.
Total Roof Control (TRC) provides industrial and commercial roofing maintenance, refurbishment and repair services across much of the UK, with expertise spanning sheeting and cladding, gutter systems, liquid-applied weatherproofing, single-ply roofing, high-performance felt systems and general roof maintenance.
The business has a heritage stretching back more than a century, with its roots dating to 1897 and the development of the Turnerised roofing process.
The process was introduced to the UK in 1925 and subsequently operated nationally through Turnerised Roofing Co (Great Britain) Ltd. Following decades of development and several changes to the organisation, TRC (Midlands) Ltd was established in 1991.
Today, the company works with a longstanding portfolio of industrial and commercial clients and has built its reputation around technical expertise, reliability, safety and long-term customer relationships.
TRC is a member of Constructionline and the National Federation of Roofing Contractors and has achieved multiple annual Gold Safety Awards through the NFRC.
The acquisition comes as TrueNorth Capital Group accelerates plans to create one of the UK’s most respected construction platforms through strategic acquisitions, operational investment and the development of industry talent.
Backed by family office capital and founded by construction entrepreneur and acquisition specialist Bradley Lay, TrueNorth is building a group across three core verticals: MEP, External Envelope & Facades, and Manufacturing & Offsite Construction.
The group is targeting profitable, well-managed specialist businesses with strong leadership teams, established customer relationships and significant opportunities for further growth.
Bradley Lay, Principal of TrueNorth Capital Group, said: “Total Roof Control is exactly the type of business we want to bring into TrueNorth. It has an exceptional heritage, longstanding customer relationships and a reputation that has been built over generations.
“Our responsibility is to protect what has made the business successful while providing the investment, infrastructure and support required for its next stage of growth.
“The roofing and external envelope market is a major part of our strategy, and TRC gives us a fantastic platform from which to continue building our capabilities in this area.”
TrueNorth has already completed acquisitions and investments as it develops a portfolio of specialist businesses capable of operating independently while benefiting from the resources and capabilities of the wider group.
Its portfolio includes KNG Building Services, a £10 million turnover MEP contracting business, while the group has also established SME Funded, a specialist finance and funding platform for UK SMEs.
A central part of TrueNorth’s acquisition model is providing a long-term succession solution for owners of established construction businesses.
Rather than absorbing businesses into a single corporate identity, TrueNorth’s strategy is to protect the culture, reputation, customer relationships and specialist expertise that have made individual companies successful.
The group then supports those businesses through investment in people, technology, systems, leadership, operational capability and strategic growth.
Bradley added: “There are some outstanding privately owned construction businesses across the UK, many of which have taken decades or even generations to build.
“When owners begin thinking about succession, growth or eventually stepping away, the options available to them can be surprisingly limited.
“We want TrueNorth to be a genuine long-term home for those businesses. That means respecting their history and their people while giving management teams the resources and backing to achieve the next phase of their ambitions.
“TRC has demonstrated remarkable resilience and adaptability throughout its history. Businesses do not build that kind of longevity without strong values, great people and an unwavering commitment to their customers. We are incredibly excited about what we can build together.”
TRC has continued serving industrial and commercial customers while retaining the expertise and continuity developed through its long history.
Its services today include:
● Sheeting and cladding
● Gutter cleaning, lining and replacement
● Liquid-applied weatherproofing systems
● Single-ply roof systems
● High-performance felt systems
● General roof maintenance and repairs
The acquisition will provide TRC with access to the wider resources of TrueNorth while maintaining the specialist capabilities and customer-focused approach on which its reputation has been built.
TrueNorth’s wider strategy is focused on consolidating fragmented specialist areas of the construction industry where established businesses can achieve greater growth through investment, collaboration and shared resources.
Alongside acquisitions, the group is investing in leadership development, technology, digital systems and operational excellence.
TrueNorth has also launched its Design Academy, an industry initiative designed to identify and develop emerging construction professionals through structured training, mentoring and practical experience.
