They catch your eye as soon as you enter your block, even more so the dirty marks that seem never to go away! The weekly cleaning of the block addresses the norm, but over time the floors start to look dirty.
Door mats, are a vital and a very easy way to collect a lot of dirt that otherwise gets onto carpets and hard floors, yet still many blocks don’t have entrance door mats, and therefore the floors suffer. Alternatively just as bad are entrance mats that are worn out, and therefore again they don’t catch any dirt.
So always ensure that you have an adequate entrance mat, or that the one that you have isn’t worn out. Dust control mats are a suitable alternative, which are swapped out and cleaned on a regular basis.
Once the dirt is in the building how are your floors maintained? Your carpets are vacuumed every week, but when were they cleaned last? Regular deep cleaning maintenance will ensure that your carpets look better, but it will also help them to last longer, having the carpets cleaned is a lot cheaper than replacing them. So consider having stair and landing carpets cleaned on a regular basis. One word of warning though, if you do decide to try and remove that annoying stain in the carpet, beware using the wrong chemical can sometimes lock the stain into the carpet fibre, making it extremely difficult for even the most experienced carpet cleaner to remove.
But not all blocks have carpet, hard floor coverings offer a competitive floor covering and in practice an easier surface to keep clean. Dirt sits on top of the floor, but at the same time suitable entrance matting is required. How is your hard floor currently maintained? Do you regularly have any machine work done on the floor, have it stripped and sealed or polished?
Whilst these can sound like costly works, in essence it is similar to having the carpets cleaned. A regular cleaning maintenance program for hard floors enhances the appearance and aids the life of them, irrespective of whether it is a vinyl, tiled, or even concrete floor.
Once hard floors have had a treatment then the appearance is easier to maintain as the appropriate maintainer chemical is designed to work with the polish or sealant that has been applied.
So review your floor maintenance programs regularly to ensure that you are doing the best to keep your floors looking good, as the floor will catch your eye as you enter the building particularly any dirty areas.
If you have doubt about what needs to happen with your floors, seek advice, there are many floor maintenance companies that will provide professional advice, and can test your floor to determine the best course of action.
