This week marks the beginning of #FireCompartmentationAwarenessWeek - a new campaign to shine a light on one of the most overlooked aspects of building safety: fire compartmentation.
While much of fire safety is visible - alarms, extinguishers, and signage - compartmentation is often hidden behind walls, ceilings, and risers. Yet it plays a vital role in slowing the spread of fire and smoke, giving occupants time to escape and emergency services time to act. When these fire-stopping barriers are breached or poorly maintained, the results can be devastating.
By encouraging the industry to share stories, observations, and lessons learned, the campaign aims to promote better understanding, highlight real-world risks, and reinforce the importance of intrusive surveys in identifying hidden breaches.
