Amstone Ventures has completed on a 3.28 acre (1.33 ha) site in Stockport town centre for a build to rent led residential development. The site is situated on Warren Street close to the old town market hall and square. The Sainsbury’s supermarket which has occupied the site since 1984 has now closed its doors.
Architect, Leach Rhodes Walker, is drawing up a plan for a landmark scheme of circa 550 high quality residential homes. There will be a mix of apartments and town houses together with a large communal garden and surrounding greenspaces. Deloitte has also joined the design team as planning consultant. Amstone aims to submit a planning application to Stockport Council later this year with a projected start on site early in 2022.
With a population of over 300,000, Stockport has so much to offer. Stockport Borough Council’s progressive vision has recently seen the town secure £1 billion of investment. Stockport is seeing some exciting development activity including the new Interchange scheme, the redevelopment of M&S, Weir Mill and the recent award of £14.5m of Future High Street Funding to transform the town centre as well as the creation of the innovative Mayoral Development Corporation. There are excellent transport connections both regionally and nationally including a direct train link to London.
The town is a well-established business location with a thriving market hall, great evening lifestyle options, the historic Underbanks area and it’s only 10 mins by train into Manchester city centre which makes it ever more appealing. A hidden gem is the Peak District National Park which is only a short journey away by road and easily assessable via other transport links.
This site, in terms of scale and amenity, is ideally matched with the scheme that Amstone recently delivered at Clippers Quay in Salford for Grainger plc. The same quality and sense of place will deliver an outstanding new district right in the heart of Stockport town centre. The provision of Amstone’s high quality residential product in the town will further enhance the area and provide much needed accommodation for those wanting to enjoy all that Stockport has to offer.
Amstone’s initial proposals for the site have been well received and it is confident in the vision for Warren Street. Martin Halsey, Operations Director at Amstone Ventures said:

Most recently, Amstone agreed a forward funding deal with One Manchester to deliver 96 new, modern residential units comprising seven townhouses and 89 apartments in Longsight to the north of Manchester city centre. Martin Halsey, Operations Director at Amstone added:
