There are so many aspects to London’s 2012 legacy - more people are getting into sport locally; the public facilities are increasing such as the new local swimming pool, and we have a world class venue soon to be the home of West Ham United FC - what more could a Londoner need?
Some locals are saying we have seen the loss of the ‘real’ East End and some even feel it is a case of ‘social cleansing’, while others are happy that former wasteland sites are being turned into a tranquil place of beauty and finally the East End side of London is getting some attention - in the right way.
With new build sites popping up left, right and centre, developers locally are having trouble completing developments to keep up with demand.
You only need to look at what Shoreditch and Hoxton now offer the city slickers among us; surely Stratford and Bow were bound to follow suit at some point?
Westfield Shopping Centre opened declaring this part of Stratford as ‘Stratford City’ - surely this can only have a positive effect creating more jobs locally and attracting more businesses to an area once famed for having ‘Fridge Mountain’; believed to be the largest collection of discarded white goods in Europe.
Many agents are benefiting from the regeneration of the area, with all these new builds gracing our skies providing opportunities now and in the not too distant future.
For example, there’s the Bellevue Bow development nearing final completion and new owners moving in. The increase in actively-looking applicants has been noticeable since the end of the first quarter in 2015.
These new eco-friendly apartments in Bow are appealing to more and more City professionals, with the commute to and from the office taking 20 minutes by train.
Couple this with the fact that this kind of modern living in the East End, at this stage, is slightly easier on the wallet than developments such as the Limehouse blocks in Docklands, and it is no wonder Bow and Stratford will soon be ‘the’ place to live in the East End.
