Five design students from across the country are celebrating having been selected winners in the first Peverel Retirement Design Competition, ‘Future Ageing’. Students were invited to conceptualise what they thought the independent living retirement development of the future would look like.
Peverel Retirement, which manages 1,500 developments comprising 65,000 properties, launched the national competition in conjunction with the Interior Educators, who are a group of lecturers teaching interior design and architecture. Students were asked to consider space, security, sustainability and social living in their entries.
Top prize went to The American Intercontinental University student, Margherita De Eccher with Sophie Hull, design student from Leeds College of Art winning second place. Runners-up were Jennifer Campbell and Debbie Allan from The Glasgow School of Art and Ameena Al-Samarae from Manchester School of Art.
Forty-four entries were received for the competition from eight universities. The panel of judges included Cynthia Gibbs, Business Liaison Manager Peverel Retirement, David Sparks, Managing Director Great Homes, Graeme Brooker, director of Interior Educators and Drew Plunkett, fellow of Interior Educators.
Peverel Retirement held an exhibition on 29 March to present each of the five winners their prize.
