Study Inn, a leading designer, developer and operator of high-quality purpose-built student accommodation, has been granted planning permission for a landmark scheme on Frederick Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham. The approved development comprises, demolition of a redundant office building and replacement with a striking new six-storey building, delivering 203 bedrooms with exceptional amenity space. It will take the Study Inn portfolio to over 2,000 rooms.

The new build scheme will include 156 self-contained studios and 47 serviced apartments, located on the edge of the Edgbaston Conservation Area and within walking distance of Birmingham City University’s South Campus. The location also benefits from strong public transport links to the University of Birmingham and Aston University.

Scheduled to open in September 2027, the development will provide a modern, sustainable living environment packed with premium amenities. These will include a state-of-the-art wellness spa, gym, study spaces, a resident’s lounge, and a landscaped outdoor garden to foster community and social interaction.

Sustainability remains at the heart of the project. The scheme is targeting BREEAM Excellent certification and an EPC A rating. It will incorporate renewable energy systems for heating and hot water and is being designed with the goal of achieving carbon net zero performance. It will have an EWS1 A1 rating.
Study Inn Commented; “We are proud to be delivering another sustainable, high-quality scheme that responds to the strong and growing demand for well-designed bespoke purpose-built accommodation in a city with limited immediately deliverable pipeline. This development will also contribute positively to Birmingham city’s regeneration and environmental goals.”

As part of the Group’s continuing commitment to deliver best-in-class facilities and life experience for its residents the Edgbaston project marks another significant milestone in Study Inn’s expansion of the brand in prime macro and micro locations in Russell group and top university cities.
