For the first time ever, the most influential people in the residential leasehold property sector are identified. The list contains a mix of leasehold campaigners, Parliamentarians, trade and professional bodies, managing agents, building owners, investors, developers, valuers, and lawyers amongst others.
Entries have been gathered subjectively according to our knowledge and experience of the industry and are arranged in alphabetical order by name.
Baroness Hanham is the Government Minister responsible for leasehold in the House of Lords. She has recently been supportive of ARMA-Q, the new self-regulatory regime for managing agents although, on behalf of the Government, has resisted more strident calls for legislative intervention in the leasehold sector.
Roger is an expert solicitor in the field of Residential Leasehold Property with a particular focus on Leasehold Enfranchisement and the Right to Manage. Roger is a member of the Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners (ALEP) and has been shortlisted at the prestigious Enfranchisement and Right to Manage Awards (ERMA) 2013.
Established in 2000, Landmark Investments has become a nationally-recognised and respected landlord amongst tenants and developers for its mutual high quality service offered to its tenants and the developer who has a brand to protect.
Baroness Hayter chaired a Review Group commissioned by ARMA into the regulation of managing agents (now ARMA-Q), and has actively campaigned for statutory regulation. Recently, her efforts have led to an amendment to the Enterprise Bill requiring managing agents to offer leaseholders and freeholders access to an approved ‘redress scheme’.
Brendan is responsible for Sky’s Communal TV systems, working with landlords, managing agents and developers. Since he joined in January 2012, the division has reached one million customers and its subsidised model has grown to 60,000 units annually. He is currently working with new build developers on a Sky-ready homes proposition and will shortly be introducing a single-cable upgrade solution onto the market.
Georgiana qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1986. She joined the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors residential faculty in 2007. Georgiana’s role includes advising RICS members and members of the public on residential issues and the production of practice notes and guidance, particularly on residential block management issues.
Keith, a former MP and Minister of Housing, is now leading the new independent self-regulatory panel created by ARMA. Keith leads a regulatory panel which will oversee and enforce a new Consumer Charter and set of Standards that have been specifically tailored for managing agents.
Jeremy manages the enfran-chisement practice and leads a team of eight lawyers. He is an expert in claims for the freehold of houses and collective and lease extensions in respect of flats. His principal client is the Howard de Walden Marylebone Estate. He has been involved with many recent leading cases in the House of Lords/ Supreme Court such as Aggio, Malekshad and Hosebay.
The world of leasehold enfranchisement is a minefield for the unwary and can at times defy logic. With over 20 years of experience, Graham has developed the expertise to determine clear strategies to overcome what can often seem to be insurmountable hurdles and achieve results which invariably exceed expectations.
Ben has over 20 years’ experience working in residential property management. He is the current Chair of ARMA and fellow of the IRPM. He has been heavily involved in developing ARMA’s new self-regulatory regime, ARMA-Q.
