For the first time ever, the most influential people in the residential leasehold property sector are identified. The list contains a mix of leasehold campaigners, Parliamentarians, trade and professional bodies, managing agents, building owners, investors, developers, valuers, and lawyers amongst others.
Entries have been gathered subjectively according to our knowledge and experience of the industry and are arranged in alphabetical order by name.
Trevor is responsible for the residential property interests of Dorrington, one of London’s largest landlords. He has served on the Boards of The Leasehold Advisory Service (until 2012) and The British Property Federation (until 2012), and is a well-known spokesman on residential property investment matters. He is a Board member of London & Quadrant Housing Association and a Governor of Dolphin Square Foundation.
Paul is head of Forsters residential property team and is an expert in all aspects of residential property. He has a particular specialisation in leasehold enfranchisement where he has extensive experience acting for individual tenants, groups of tenants, freeholders and intermediate landlords. He also acts for several residential estates.
Currently the only female CEO of a top-ten UK property company (by area the largest in the country), Alison Nimmo is the first woman to lead The Crown Estate. She presides over an £8bn portfolio which last year returned £240m to the Treasury, for the benefit of the nation.
Mark joined Brethertons in 2005 as a Debt Recovery Manager in the Property Management team. He became a dedicated Business Development Manager in 2011, liaising with new and existing clients to ensure that the service they receive exceeds their expectations. Mark became an Associate of Brethertons in April 2012.
Steve led “Highly Charged”, the report by the Planning and Housing Committee of the London Assembly into service charges in London. His efforts created a recent and important reference piece highlighting the difficulties of leasehold tenure, particularly in London.
Sebastian, formerly Property Editor of the Mail on Sunday, is a campaigner for leasehold reform highlighting the injustices of the system via the popular LKP blog and providing an accreditation scheme for managing agents. He has recently won two press awards and been named in Parliament for his efforts.
Chris and Thomas co-authored the CentreForum’s report into the leasehold sector, titled ‘A new lease of life: making leasehold fit for the 21st Century’. The report argues that a light touch, independent regulator for leasehold managing agents is essential if Britain’s 2.5 million leasehold properties are to be given sufficient protection.
Liz became CEO of the British Property Federation in 2002. She is currently working closely with the Coalition Government on the implementation of their growth agenda. Her achievements at the BPF have included REITs, avoiding damaging legislation on commercial leases, and improvements to planning and tax legislation.
Tony founded the Berkeley Group which has become one of the nation’s most prestigious housebuilders and has built nearly 50,000 homes since 1976. Tony is a respected leader, named in 2010 as the most influential person in the London housing market, and recently recognised in the 2013 New Year Honours.
Jeff has been heavily involved in developing Professional Qualifications, Examinations and Training for over 3,000 property managers within the leasehold / block management sector. He is the lead author of the Property Management Chapter of the RICS Blue Book and a Professional Member of the Residential Property Tribunal Service.
