A major fire tore through a residential tower block in Westminster, Central London, on Sunday evening, prompting a large-scale emergency response and forcing residents to flee their homes.
The blaze broke out shortly before 8pm on the sixth floor of Emanuel House, a seven-storey building on Rochester Row. Within minutes, thick smoke and flames were seen pouring from the flat, prompting 23 emergency calls to the London Fire Brigade (LFB).
Ten fire engines and approximately 75 firefighters were deployed from nearby stations including Lambeth, Soho, and Paddington. The Brigade also dispatched two 32-metre ladders and its specialist Drone Team to assist in tackling the fire and assessing the scene from above.
Crews worked swiftly to contain the blaze, bringing it under control by 9:32pm. Despite the dramatic scenes captured and shared widely on social media, there have been no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Emanuel House is understood to be owned freehold by Westminster City Council. Local roads were closed while emergency services remained on site into the evening, and residents were advised to avoid the area due to significant disruption.
The incident highlights the critical response capabilities of the London Fire Brigade and raises ongoing concerns around fire safety in high-density residential buildings across the capital.
